About Luma Health & Wellness
A studio providing pelvic health coaching, myofascial release, and personal training to women & babies in Goirle.
I’m Danika, and I created Luma Health & Wellness.
Hands-on care for women and babies, from someone who has spent more than a decade doing exactly this.
The professional info
I qualified as an occupational therapist in the United States in 2013. My early years were split between pediatrics and acute inpatient rehabilitation, which taught me two things I still work from. From pediatrics, that development is a whole body process and rarely tidy. From rehab, that what matters is not the exercise itself but whether someone can get through their day afterward.
Then I found pelvic health, and I have not left it since.
For the last ten years that has been my focus. Pregnancy, birth recovery, chronic pelvic pain, prolapse, perimenopause, and the long tail of symptoms women get told to live with. Five of those years I spent running my own practice, Flourish Pelvic Health & Wellness, outside of Philadelphia. It’s a women's health and infant clinic, which meant I was often treating a mother and her newborn in the same hour, for problems that turned out to be connected.
That shaped how I work more than anything else. You cannot separate a woman's recovery from how she is feeding her baby, how she is lifting her toddler, or how much sleep she is not getting.
My training has followed the same line. I trained in myofascial release through the John Barnes approach, which is still the foundation of my hands on work, and I have added cupping and trigger point techniques alongside it. I have continuing education in infant feeding and oral function, prenatal and postpartum care, and pediatric development. I’m even on track to take my IBCLC exam in April 2027.
I’m so grateful to be able to create Luma and provide the same high level of care to my clients here as I was able to bring to my patients there.
The personal stuff
Why did I move to the Netherlands?
I get this question a lot (which feels surprising, but here goes!).
The short answer is that my mom is Dutch, and I grew up spending a lot of time here as a child almost every year. Almost my entire family is all here, and I always knew I’d end up living in the Netherlands. It took my husband some convincing, but we’re here now, and it’s been an incredible change for our family! We love living here.
How can I relate to the women I help?
Well, firstly I’m a woman, which means that I’ve had multiple experiences of being ignored, brushed off, or told that I’m in less pain than I actually am.
That always feels extra annoying, considering I’m an elective amputee who had to make the decision at 23 years old to amputate my foot & ankle due to the immense amounts of pain and arthritis I had before that following a car accident. That amputation was the best decision I ever made, but it doesn’t absolve me from the women’s healthcare issues unfortunately.
I’m also someone with ADHD, PCOS/PMOS, and who has struggled with things like my weight for a very long time.
As a new mom in 2019, breastfeeding was hands down the hardest thing I’d ever done. I had the training. I knew exactly what was happening in my own body. I could have explained the mechanics to you in detail. And it was still the thing that brought me to my knees.
I was also learning to be a new mom as an amputee, which meant working out my own way of doing almost everything, from how I fed to how I carried a baby across a room. Nobody handed me that, and I had to figure it all out myself (thankfully, being an occupational therapist was a huge help in this regard).
That is what I bring to this work that no course gave me. If your body is not doing what the book says it should, I am not going to be surprised by it, and I am not going to hand you the standard advice and hope for the best.
Most women are doing all of this without any of the training I had. It is hard for them too, and that is not a failing on their part.
